You now have the ability to book Uber rides for anyone in your contact list, and it's going to make life a little easier. The company announced the change in a blog post earlier this week.
Uber has always allowed you to request a ride and specify a different pickup location, but now when you specify another pickup point, the app will ask if you or someone else will be riding. At that point, you'll be able to choose someone from your contacts and set a destination.
Once the driver is on the way, the rider will receive a text with the driver's details and a link to track the driver's route. The rider and driver will be able to contact each other, but you'll be the one footing the bill.
The new feature will be helpful if an elderly person needs a ride, but doesn't know how to use Uber; or if a friend is short on cash but needs to be picked up; or for parents requesting rides for their kids. It's a small step in making transportation a little less complicated.
