Microsoft launched a new app designed for people who are blind or have low vision, and while it's a work in progress with plenty of room for improvement, it's a huge step in the right direction.
The free app is called Seeing AI, and it's a talking camera that turns the visual world into an audible experience. It harnesses the power of AI to narrate the world by describing people, text, objects, products, scenes, currency, and even images in other apps.
By switching between channels like you would on a TV, you'll hear different types of information being spoken to you.
Scan a person with your phone, and the app will help you recognize and locate faces, facial characteristics, approximate age, emotion, and more. Hopefully the app can estimate someone's age without making for an awkward situation.

You can also scan short pieces of text or an entire document, and the audio guidance will read snippets out loud to you.
