Today is World Emoji Day, which, apparently, is an actual thing. Emojis have become a pretty big (but also teeny tiny) part of our every day lives, so it only seems right to give them their own day. You know, considering everything else has a day, i.e. National Ice Cream Day, National Hot Dog Day, National Tell An Old Joke Day, etc. etc.
In celebration of the day, Apple has released a surprise sneak peak at some of the new emojis coming to your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac later this year. We've seen renderings of what the 69 new emojis might look like, but nothing official from Apple until now.
The preview includes a woman in a headscarf, a bearded man, a yogi, and a woman breastfeeding.
There's also a zombie, an elf queen, a t-rex, and a zebra.
Apple also shared images of a star-struck face, an exploding head, an eye-roll face, and a puking face.
New symbols also include a sandwich (it's about time), a coconut, and a genie.
While Apple was kind enough to show us these new emojis, the company didn't give us any info about when the Emoji 5.0 update would be happening. In the past, iOS updates occur sometime in November. In the meantime, you'll just have to continue spelling out "sandwich."
