Amazon held an exclusive media event at its Seattle headquarters on Wednesday where the company introduced an all new, smaller Echo smart speaker. The Amazon Echo 2 features a higher level of sound with Dolby Digital support and new far-field microphone technology for accurately picking up voice commands.
But most importantly, it's a lot cooler looking.
The much smaller Echo 2 comes in six new shells to fit in better with home decor. Choose from Charcoal Fabric, Heather Gray Fabric, Sandstone Fabric, Oak Finish, Silver Finish, and Walnut Finish. The price ranges from $99.99 to $119.99, depending on the shell you choose.
There's even a three-pack of new Echos available for a $50 discount to support multi-room audio — something Amazon wasn't offering until now.
The new device does pretty much the same thing as the original Echo, so if you already own one, no need to upgrade. Unless the sound quality and overall aesthetics are important to you, in which case, you should definitely upgrade.
