If your kids haven't checked out Amazon Rapids, the chat fiction app that encourages reading by featuring hundreds of original stories in the form of text messages, now's a good time to see what it's all about.

Amazon Rapids has always had a subscription fee of $2.99 per month, which gives kids and parents unlimited access to its large collection of stories, and now it's free!

The app launched back in 2016, and the stories are geared towards kids ages 5 to 12. They're light and fun, and some of the stories are even crossovers of Amazon's kids' TV shows like "Niko and the Sword of Light" and "Danger & Eggs."

Families can listen to some of the stories through the Storytime Alexa skill, which also includes stories read by Aidy Bryant from "Saturday Night Live" and Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Annual subscribers will receive a refund for the remaining months, and monthly subscribers will no longer be charged. And as a bonus, subscribers will get a $5 promotional credit.
