A Smart Home Thing: Soft-Serve Ice Cream Pods

Being able to enjoy ice cream at home isn't a new concept—you know, ever since the invention of paper tubs and freezers. But a new device called the ColdSnap wants to bring soft-serve ice cream pods into your socially distanced pandemic kitchen.

ColdSnap uses pods filled with whatever ingredients make soft-serve ice cream and once the pod is inserted into the device, in 60 to 90 seconds, a delicious frozen treat twirls its way out. (We're assuming it's delicious, as ice cream usually is.)

The company says the plan is to also offer frozen yogurt pods, frozen coffee pods, frozen healthy shake pods, frozen smoothie pods, and slushie pods.

Perhaps the most notable pod it'll offer is the frozen cocktail pod, so when you're in the mood for a frozen margarita or piña colada, you can whip one out in a minute or two.

When ColdSnap launches, it'll cost around $500 and the pods will cost $2.99 each.

In our opinion, ColdSnap is a pretty unnecessary gadget for your home, considering the waste and how much counter space it would need. The company is currently pitching the device to families, but says it plans to release a business version. It does seem like it'd be a cool employee perk at the office. No pun intended... because cool... and ice cream... ok.
