How Can I Block the Data Service From My Nokia E71 & Use WiFi Only?

By Jessica Best

Data charges through cellular phone providers can become very expensive. One way you can reduce these charges is to block the mobile network and use only the Wi-Fi feature when surfing the Internet or checking email. This greatly reduces the cost of mobile Internet both in the plan and overage charges. With the Nokia E71, you can disable the mobile data by changing the networking settings on the phone.

Disable Data Service

Step 1

Press the "Home" button located on the right side of the navigation scroll button.

Step 2

Press "Menu" on the lower left corner of the home screen.

Step 3

Select "Tools," then "Settings" from the main menu.

Step 4

Select "Connection" from the settings menu and select "APN Control."

Step 5

Click "Options," then "Remove." This removes all packet data connections until you reactivate them.

Activate Wi-Fi

Step 1

Press the "Home" button located on the right side of the navigation scroll button.

Step 2

Click "Menu" on the lower left side of the home screen.

Step 3

Select "Connectivity" from the main menu.

Step 4

Click "WLAN Wizard." The wizard will scan for available Wi-Fi networks and prompt you to select a network.

Step 5

Enter the passcode for the Wi-Fi network if prompted. The Wi-Fi is now connected on the Nokia E71, with the data service blocked. The only form of Internet the device will use is Wi-Fi.
