How Do I Access My Verizon Voice Mail?

By Krystle Vermes

Verizon provides its customers with a voice mail feature that allows them to check messages on the go by dialing a single number. Instead of waiting until you get home to check an answering machine, you can now carry your "Inbox" in your pocket. Accessing and managing your voice mail is as simple as going through a few quick steps.

Things You'll Need

  • A Verizon contract
  • A cellular phone as provided by Verizon

Step 1

Make sure you are in an area where your phone can get signal. Stay away from other electronic devices that use air waves (e.g., computers, laptops) and call from a room that is above ground (not a basement).

Step 2

Hold down the number 1 to speed dial your voice mail. Dialing 1 will take you to your voice mail inbox if your cellular phone speed dial numbers are preset by Verizon.

Step 3

Dial *86 to access your voice mail, if you do not have your cellular phone preset to 1 on your speed dial.

Step 4

Listen to the automated voice for a list of commands you can send to your inbox after you have listened to your messages.

Tips & Warnings

  • Open "Messages" on your phone and select "Voicemail" to view your message counter and dial your inbox.
