How Do I Check an iPod Battery Percentage?

By Michelle Varsallona

If you use your iPod constantly, you can drain its battery's life rather quickly. You must charge the battery often, so that your iPod can last on a long jog, drive, or any lengthy activity. Your iPod lets you know how low or high the battery life is, and it even warns you when the battery is very low and needs to be charged right away. By keeping track, you know just when to charge the device.

Step 1

Press any button on your iPod to take it out of standby mode.

Step 2

View the icon at the upper right-hand corner of the screen which will show a battery in a box. If the battery is completely charged, the icon will be green, or somewhere in the box the word "Charged" appears. When the charge is diminishing, a portion of the battery icon becomes red--as the charge is reduced, the red area becomes larger. When the charge is extremely low, the battery icon may appear almost empty with only a sliver of red in it. On the iPod screen, it could also say "Low Battery" or "Connect to Power." These warnings are indicating a very low percentage of battery life and advising you to charge the battery as soon as possible.

Step 3

Charge the iPod accordingly. Your battery may need to be charged for up to 30 minutes.
