How Do I Download Songs Onto an iPod From My Laptop Computer?

By Chris Anzalone

You can download new music onto iTunes and transfer it instantly to your iPod. This arrangement works well for iPod Classic, Nano and Shuffle users who do not possess the benefit of Wi-Fi on their MP3 players.

Things You'll Need

  • iPod
  • iTunes
  • Laptop

Step 1

Plug your iPod into your laptop’s USB port using the USB cable that came with the iPod. ITunes should open automatically, displaying the iPod icon on the left side of the window beneath the iTunes library. If iTunes fails to open automatically, then select it from your applications.

Step 2

Drag songs and playlists from your iTunes library and drop them onto the iPod icon.

Step 3

Eject the iPod by clicking the triangular button to the right of the iPod icon. The device will take a few seconds to sync the music, after which you can unplug it from your computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • In order to download songs from the iTunes Store, you will need an Internet connection.
  • Eject the iPod when you have finished, as failure to do so may cause the syncing process to fail.
