How Do I Register My iPod Online?

By Tim Mammadov

Once you buy an iPod, it's a good idea to register it before you begin downloading songs and movies. The easiest way to do this online is to connect your iPod to your computer, download iTunes and then provide account registration info. Once you are done with this process, your information will be stored in Apple's database and the registration will be much faster with other Apple products in the future.

Before you connect the iPod to your computer, you need to download iTunes to your PC (see References). Mac owners, however, get this software preinstalled with the operating system. ITunes is a free digital media player that can be used to play movies and music. It's also the software that can manage iPod applications, when you need to transfer a song from desktop or CD to the iPod, for example. The software also connects to the iTunes store (provided you have Internet connection), so you can purchase and download music, movies, applications, games and ring tones.

Accessing Registration

ITunes is designed in such a way that once you connect the iPod via the included USB cable to your computer, the application will start running automatically. This is where you will see a pop-up of the first screen with a welcome sign and a request to register your new iPod and create an account with iTunes for purchases (you can do this right away or later). ITunes requires an Internet connection to connect to in case you decide to register your iPod. This process might take one to three minutes, so be patient.

The registration asks for your name, address, phone number and e-mail address, as well as a few demographic questions. There are two reasons for this: to register you in the Apple databases account and keep you informed about the news from Apple. Once your provide this information, you will be asked to agree to the terms and conditions of iTunes (you can skip this step if you don't want to create an iTunes account and the registration will be completed). If you accept the terms, then you will have to provide account security information and credit card info for future purchases in the iTunes store. The credit card will only be charged if you buy something.
