How Do I Sync My iPad for the First Time?
The Apple iPad synchronizes with Apple's iTunes software to keep your data, contacts, games and music up to date and synchronized between the iPad and your computer. The first time you sync your iPad to your computer, you will need to tell iTunes what additional information you want to be synced with the iPad, such as the contacts from Microsoft Outlook or the Windows Contacts program in Windows Vista.
Ensure you have the latest version of iTunes on your computer by running iTunes and updating it if requested.
Open the iTunes software if it is not already open.
Attach your iPad to your computer with the iPad's USB cable. The flatter, wider end of the cable attaches to the bottom of your iPad while the traditional rectangular USB port attaches to a USB port on your computer.
Click on the iPad in the iTunes "Devices" section.
Select which items, including the address book, you wish to be synchronized between the computer and the iPad and then click "Apply."
