How do I Track iPhone Locations?

By Mario Calhoun

If your Apple iPhone is lost or stolen, you can track the location of the device by using the "Find My iPhone" tool on the MobileMe site. As a MobileMe member you are able to locate your iPhone as long as it is turned on. You can also be given up-to-the-minute location coordinates. Once the phone is located, you have the option to erase the iPhone's contents to protect your privacy, according to Apple's website.

Things You'll Need

  • MobileMe account
  • iOS 3.1 or later

Step 1

Tap the "Settings" button on your iPhone, then tap "Mail, Contacts, Calendars." Tap "MobileMe" in the Accounts section, or tap "Add Account" and fill out the on-screen fields to add your MobileMe account to your iPhone.

Step 2

Tap the switch on the "Find My iPhone" tab to "ON," then touch the "Allow" button on the pop-up menu.

Step 3

Visit the MobileMe site. Enter your username and password, then click the "Sign In" button (see Resources for link).

Step 4

Click your name in the upper-right corner of the screen, then select the "Account Settings" tab from the drop-down menu. Re-enter your account's password and press the "Return" or "Enter" key on your keyboard.

Step 5

Click the "Find My iPhone" tab located on the left side of the browser window. Wait for the tool to locate the device. According to the Apple website, a green light next to the name of your device means its is online. A red light means it is offline and cannot be found.

Step 6

Click the "Refresh" arrow icon in the upper-right corner of the screen to refresh the tool tracker for your iPhone.
