By C.D. Crowder

Access the Basic Input Output System, better known as BIOS, on an HP laptop for advanced system settings. One of the most commonly changed BIOS settings on an HP laptop is the boot order, such as booting from a CD or USB device first. Diagnostics are also available in the HP laptop BIOS to help troubleshoot power, memory and hard drive problems. The BIOS can also be used to view installed and recognized memory, multiple hard drives and processors.
