How to Access iPod Files Without iTunes
Many users are unaware the media files on their iPod can be opened without using the iTunes media player software. They do not realize that once connected via USB, the computer treats the device very similarly to a USB flash drive. You can open files on the iPod by uncovering the hidden folders within the device. The process only takes a few minutes to complete.
Things You'll Need
Insert the USB cable included with your computer into the bottom dock of your iPod. Insert the other end of the cable into an open USB port on your computer.
Click "Start," and then select "Control Panel." Click the "Portable Media Devices" icon from the list.
Double-click your iPod's icon from the list of available devices. Click the "Tools" menu and then select "Options." Select the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" option. Open the folder titled "\iPod_Control\Music" to access all of the music files held on the device. Open the folder titled "\iPod_Control\Photos" to access the photos and so forth. You can copy these files to any folder on your computer.
