How to Activate a Dell Monitor With a USB Connection
Some Dell branded computer monitors may have built-in devices that are powered by USB such as speakers or cameras. Other Dell monitors may have additional USB ports on the monitor front in the event that you need additional USB access. In both cases there needs to be a physical connection between the monitor and a USB port on the computer to power the attachments or additional USB ports. This connection is in addition to the video out connection standard for all monitors.
Shut down the computer and disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
Connect the end of the DVI jack with no pins in it to the DVI in port on the back of the Dell monitor. Connect the other end (with pins) to the "Video In" or "Monitor In" connection on the rear of the computer.
Connect one end of the included monitor USB cable to the USB port on the back of the monitor. Connect the other end to an available USB port on the rear of the computer. If all rear USB ports are occupied by other devices, connect it to one of the computer's front USB ports if available.
Connect the monitor's power cord to an available wall outlet or outlet on a surge protector. Reconnect the computer's power supply and turn on both the monitor and computer.
