How to Activate ActiveX Controls

By Alexandra Haller

ActiveX controls regulate the ability of certain applications to run on your computer. Chances are good that if you have a newer Windows operating system running an Internet Explorer version greater than 7.0 you won't encounter this mishap. However, if you do need to activate your computer's ActiveX controls you don't' need to download any programs or install any temperamental applications.

Step 1

Click "Tools" and "Options" from the Internet Explorer navigation toolbar. This will open the Internet Options window.

Step 2

Select the "Security" tab and then click the "Custom Level" button.

Step 3

Scroll down to the heading for "ActiveX Controls and Plug-ins."

Step 4

Check the "Enable" button next to "Run ActiveX Controls and Plug-ins." Also, click the "Enable" button next to "Script ActiveX Controls Marked Safe for Scripting." This will activate your ActiveX controls.

Step 5

Choose "Yes" when a warning message asks to verify your intent to change the security settings.

Step 6

Click "Apply" and "OK" to exit from this window.
