How to Activate Bluetooth on a Thinkpad
The Thinkpad laptop by Lenovo (which owns the IBM laptop division) features built-in Bluetooth capabilities. Bluetooth is a wireless connection that allows devices to pair with one another. Some devices, such as Bluetooth mice and keyboards, use the wireless connection to allow you to control the on-screen interface with the device. Other devices, such as smartphones and PDAs, can connect and share files over the connection.
Turn on the Thinkpad and log in if required.
Wait for the Windows desktop to load. Locate the "Fn" and "F5" keys on the keyboard.
Press the "Fn" and "F5" keys at the same time to turn on the Thinkpad's Bluetooth.
Click on the small arrow next to the icons in the lower right of the Windows desktop. This will reveal additional icons, including the Bluetooth icon.
Right-click on the icon and select the option for "Discoverable." This allows other Bluetooth devices to find the Thinkpad and pair with it. You can also select the option for "Browse Device" for devices such as smartphones, other laptops and PDAs that have Bluetooth on and are able to share files.
Tips & Warnings
- If the "Fn" and "F5" key combination does not work, locate the Bluetooth icon in the lower right of the Windows desktop, right-click and select "Turn On" or "Enable."
