How to Add Songs to Your iPod From iTunes

The Apple software iTunes is a media player that can be used to organize and listen to the audio library saved on your computer. This same program can also be utilized to add songs onto your iPod. Depending on how or if you have used the iPod in the past, you may need to make one change to the settings of the portable device. Making this change will let you choose the songs that you wish to add to your iPod from iTunes.

Things You'll Need

  • iPod cord
  • iTunes

Change iPod Settings

Step 1

Plug your iPod into any of the computer's USB ports via that iPod's cord.

Step 2

Open iTunes.

Step 3

Click the iPod under the "Devices" category along the left side of the screen to highlight the name of the device. Tabs will appear near the top of iTunes.

Step 4

Click the "Summary" tab. Settings for your iPod will be listed in the middle iTunes window.

Step 5

Click "Manually manage music and videos" setting. Click "Apply" positioned near the very bottom of iTunes center window. The setting will then be saved on the iPod.

Add Music to iPod

Step 1

Click "Music" on the left side of iTunes. The songs saved in iTunes will be listed in the center of the screen.

Step 2

Choose all of the songs you want to add to your iPod by clicking the names of the songs.

Step 3

Drag the chosen audio files to the iPod listed under "Devices." The songs will be added to the iPod.
