How to Alter Your IP Address

Many people wish to change their IP address for various reasons. Whether you're banned from a site or flooded by incessant spam, you could change your IP address in less than a minute.

Step 1

Navigate to the "Start" menu and select "Run." In the Run dialog, type "cmd" (without quotation marks), then select "OK." The command line dialog appears.

Step 2

Type "ipconfig /release" (without quotation marks) and press "Enter."

Step 3

Type "ipconfig /renew" (without quotation marks), then press "Enter." Your IP address has been renewed.

Step 4

Type "exit" (without quotation marks), then press "Enter" to close the window.
