How to Attach a Fax Machine to a Cellular Phone

By Kim Sarah

Modern phones have the ability to connect with fax machines. Cell phones that are capable of handling applications can often be used for a variety of tasks, such as sending and receiving faxes from the phone itself. You can apply services to your phone that allow you to virtually connect to your home or office fax machine. It only takes a few simple steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Smartphone (capable of running applications)

Step 1

Choose a service for your fax machine. This is similar to selecting a phone company. The fax service will allow you to send faxes over telephone lines. Some services charge a monthly fee, and others have options that are geared toward people or business that only send and receive a few faxes each month. See the Resources section for links to some fax services. You can register online using the applications on the websites.

Step 2

Add the application to your phone. Smartphones have a menu that will allow you to view, purchase and download applications. After registering the phone, you will receive a code. Enter that code into your phone to complete the registration process. The application will now be ready to use.

Step 3

Send faxes from your phone. Use your phone's email application to do this. Type the fax number in the "To:" section of the email. Type a message in the body of the email. Press "Send." The message will be sent to the fax machine connected to the number.

Step 4

Receive faxes on your phone by typing your cell number on the fax machine from which you're sending a fax. Also supply your cell phone number as your fax number so others do the same. Any fax that your cell receives will arrive as an email attachment.
