How to Avoid Web Browser Popups

When you use your Web browser, popups can be a problem. It's hard to concentrate on the content of a Web site when popups block what you're trying to read. You can try and move them or get rid of them, but they'll be back. Most Web browsers now come with automatic popup blockers you can engage to avoid these annoying ads entirely.

Avoid Popups in Mozilla

Step 1

Open a fresh browser window in Mozilla Firefox.

Step 2

Click on the Tools tab and select the 'Options' choice from the drop-down box.

Click on the 'Content' button.

Step 4

Check the 'Block Popup Windows' box. To specify specific Web pages for which you'd like to allow popups, click on the 'Exceptions' button and type the address in the field. Click the 'Allow' button.

Avoid Popups in Netscape

Step 1

Open your browser window in Netscape.

Click the 'Popup Block' button once to block popups. The button will read 'Popups Blocked.'

Allow Specific Popups on Netscape

Step 1

Allow popups on a certain site by first clicking on the Tools tab and selecting 'Popup Manager.'

Click on the 'Manage Popups' option and then type the URL into the designated field.

Avoid Popups on Internet Explorer

Open an Internet Explorer window.

Click to open the Tools menu and then select 'Popup Blocker.'

Click on 'Popup Blocker Settings' and then type the name of your Web site you'd like to allow popups from.

Click on the 'Add' button.

Step 5

Click the 'Close' button to continue browsing the Internet.
