How to Block a Number on a Motorola RAZR
Sometimes it seems impossible to get certain people to stop calling you. Whether the calls are coming in from an old flame, a telemarketer or an insurance salesperson, those unwanted calls not only can be frustrating but can also wreak havoc on your cell phone bill. You can stop a phone number from calling through to your Motorola RAZR with usage controls available from your cell phone carrier. Once the number is blocked, you will no longer receive the pesky calls.
Understand that Smart Limits is a fee service that will be an additional $4.99 on your monthly bill as of December 2010. Click on "Add to cart." Sign in to your AT&T account with your wireless number and password. Provide all requested information to complete the ordering process and add the feature to your account.
Go to the welcome page for your AT&T account. Click on the "Manage AT&T Smart Limits" link. Choose "Blocked Numbers," which is located in the left-side menu.
Enter the number you would like to block. Hit "Submit" and verify the number is now added to your "Blocked Numbers" section on the right-side menu. Add any additional numbers, up to 15 numbers total, you would like to prevent from calling or texting you.
Go to the Verizon Wireless website. Log in to your account with your user ID and password. Click on "Spam Controls" in the "My Services" menu. Enter the number you would like to block and up to four additional numbers that you would like to prevent from calling, texting or leaving messages on your Motorola RAZR.
Click "Apply" to accept the settings and complete the process. The spam control settings will be good for 90 days. After that time period, log in again and repeat the process.
Verizon Wireless also offers a parental control plan that allows up to 20 numbers to be blocked with no expiration date. That feature is available for $4.99 per month as of December 2010.
Tips & Warnings
- You can also use your Motorola RAZR settings to block numbers. Unfortunately, this option will block more than just the one number you wish to prevent from calling you. In the "Tools" section of the "Settings" menu on your RAZR, click on "Security." Enter your four-digit lock number, which by default is the last four digits of your phone number. Click on "Limit Use," then "Restrict Incoming Calls." Choose the option that allows you to block all calls except for those in your Motorola RAZR's contact list. The phone numbers that are not in your list will no longer ring through to your phone but you can still leave a message.
