How to Block Caller ID for One Call

Most people in 2011 have some kind of caller ID, either on their home phone or their cell phone. That means when you call someone, they will have your phone number. However, you probably do not want everyone to have your phone number. Luckily, there is a simple code you can enter in your phone to block your number from being captured by caller ID. This code works for both land line and cellular phones, but the method slightly differs.

You can foil caller ID by entering a special Vertical Service Code.

Land Line Phones

Step

Pick up the receiver and wait for a dial tone.

Step

Dial "*67" on the phone and listen for a dial tone again.

Step

Dial the number you wish to call. Your number will not be displayed on their caller ID for this one call.

Cellular Phones

Step

Power on your phone.

Step

Enter "_67" followed by the number you wish to call. This is entered all at once. As an example, to call 555-555-5555, you would enter "_675555555555."

Step

Press "Send" on your cell phone. The call is placed, but your number will not be displayed on the recipient's caller ID.
