How to Block Calls for a Home Phone With Codes

For any number of reasons, you might wish to conceal your phone number when you place a call from your home phone or you may want to block incoming calls from certain numbers. The widespread use of Caller ID has made it easier than ever to discover the number of almost any caller, but this raises privacy concerns. Fortunately, you can enter codes to block your number from appearing in Caller ID displays, and you can use codes to block incoming calls from a number you don't want to answer. These procedures are straightforward and can be accomplished in just a few minutes.

Blocking Your Number From Caller ID

Step 1

Pick up the phone and hold the receiver to your ear as you normally would to place a call.

Step 2

Dial "*67" on the keypad.

Step 3

Listen to a short, recorded message explaining that your phone number will be blocked from appearing on Caller ID.

Step 4

Dial the number of the person with whom you wish to speak.

Step 5

Wait for a response. Your call will show up on the other party's caller ID display as "blocked call" or a something similar.

Blocking Others From Calling Your Home

Step 1

Pick up the phone so that you can dial the code to block a number. Be sure to have the number handy.

Step 2

Place the receiver to your ear so that you can hear instructions.

Step 3

Dial "*60" on the keypad.

Step 4

Listen to the instructions. You will be prompted to enter the phone number you want to block. After the prompt, enter the area code and the phone number.

Step 5

Listen to the recorded message confirming your request and follow any other instructions. The blocked number will be prevented from calling your home number.
