How to Block ooVoo

People access ooVoo to video chat with friends and family through their computer using a webcam, and a microphone or headset. With ooVoo, you can video chat for free and you can pay for other services that provide extra features. You may be looking to block ooVoo because it is distracting your kids, or simply because you don't want them video chatting on the Web. Regardless of your reasons, ooVoo can swiftly be restricted though your Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox Web browser.

Block ooVoo With Internet Explorer

Step 1

Launch Internet Explorer, click the "Tools" icon on the upper-right corner of the window and select "Internet Options" from the drop-down menu.

Step 2

Click the tab that says "Security" displayed on the upper region of the Internet Options dialog box.

Step 3

Click the red icon that says "Restricted Sites" and then click the "Sites" button. A dialog box titled "Restricted Sites" will pop up.

Step 4

Type the URL address for ooVoo (http://www.oovoo.com/) in the "Add this website to the zone" URL bar. Click the "Add" button to finish adding ooVoo to the list of blocked sites. Close the dialog box by clicking the "Close" button, and ooVoo will be blocked.

Block ooVoo With Mozilla Firefox

Step 1

Visit the Mozilla Add-ons website to access Parental Control add-ons that are are used with Firefox to block websites. Firefox doesn't offer a native tool that enables you to block websites. You must install an add-on to the browser to accomplish this task.

Step 2

Examine the list of available add-ons that block Web content on Firefox. There are several available on this list. FoxFilter is a free, reputable and widely-used add-on to consider using. Other add-ons charge a fee; for instance, ProCon Latte is $10, and LinkExtended and Blocksite are $5, at the time of publication.

Step 3

Click the filtering add-on you want to use to block ooVoo and click on "Continue to Download" or "Add to Firefox" -- depending on add-on you chose when prompted. Click "Accept and Installed" and then "Install Now" from the pop-up dialog box.

Step 4

Relaunch Firefox to complete the installation process and once Firefox restarts the add-on you chose will be running. Click the "Tool" tab and on the upper-left section of the browser, click "Add-ons" from the drop-down menu and select the add-on you installed. Thereafter, follow the prompts from the add-on you selected to block ooVoo. This will involve adding the ooVoo URL (http://www.oovoo.com/) to the add-on's list of blocked websites
