How to Block People on Twitter

By Lara Webster

If someone is annoying you on Twitter, don't let him ruin your social networking experience. Block users to stop them from being able to follow your tweets, putting you on a list or mentioning you in one of their own tweets. The process is easy and is not permanent -- you can always unblock a user from the same menu used to block him if you change your mind. Be aware, however, that if your tweets are public, a blocked user can still visit your profile.

Step 1

Log in to your Twitter account and click inside the "Search" field at the top of the homepage.

Step 2

Enter either the real or Twitter name of the person you want to block in the search field. Hit "Enter."

Step 3

Find the person in the search results and click on his name. Click on the gear icon, located on the far right side of the toolbar under the user's name and picture.

Step 4

Click "Block" from the drop-down menu.

Tips & Warnings

  • Other users' profiles can also be accessed through the "Following" or "Followers" list on a mutual friend's page, or your own news feed if you currently follow the user.
