How to Block Restricted Calls on an iPhone

By Mandy Slake

If you want to block anonymous, private or restricted calls on your iPhone, whether you can do so depends on your carrier. AT&T does not give you the option to block anonymous calls. Verizon Wireless iPhone users do have the ability to block anonymous callers, but it requires subscribing to the Usage Controls feature. When you enable the block under Usage Controls in your My Verizon account, callers with blocked caller ID will hear a message that you are not accepting calls.

Step 1

Contact Verizon Wireless customer care and add the Usage Controls feature to your account. You can call "*611" from your iPhone or dial 800-922-0204 from another line.

Step 2

Open your Web browser and log in to your My Verizon account on the Verizon Wireless website.

Step 3

Click "Manage Verizon Safeguards" in the the "Plans & Services" section.

Step 4

Click "Manage Your Family's Usage Controls" in the "Parental Controls" section.

Step 5

Click the "Usage Controls" tab and click the "+ Add Blocked Numbers" button.

Step 6

Click the "+ Add Blocks" button. The site will display a list of phones on your account, listed by the last four digits of the number.

Step 7

Locate the number for your iPhone and check the box labeled "Block Restricted, Unavailable and Private Numbers."

Step 8

Click "Add" to save the settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your iPhone is jailbroken, you have the option of installing blacklist applications that will block restricted calls.
