How to Block Text Messages on a Droid
Blocking text messaging on your Droid phone is an important feature if you wish to avoid Internet spam or block a specific number. Although this is something you cannot do straight from your phone, you can block texts by signing up with a spam program from your carrier. The only carrier for the Droid phone in the U.S. is Verizon Wireless, and customers sign up for spam controls via the Verizon website. This service allows you to block texts from up to five individual phone numbers or 15 email addresses for free.
Navigate to the Verizon Wireless website and mouse over the "My Verizon" tab. Enter your user ID and password, and then click "Sign In."
Sign up for Verizon's spam control service. Click "My Services," select "Verizon Safeguards," and click "Spam Controls." Select "Sign up" to add text message blocking to your account for free.
Click the "Call and Messaging Blocking" tab, and then enter up to five phone numbers you wish to block texts from. Alternatively, click the "Internet Spam Blocking" and enter the email or web address, and then click "Save."
Repeat the process after 90 days, which is when your blocks will expire.
Tips & Warnings
- If you would like to stop texts from a short code, text "STOP," "QUIT," "END," "CANCEL" or "UNSUBSCRIBE" to the number.
- Downloading a third-person text-blocking application to your phone may stop you from seeing texts, but it will not stop your phone from receiving them. Your carrier will still charge you.
