How to Block Your Cell Number When Making a Call

By Maya Walker

Cell phone users can block their caller information from being displayed when placing calls to telephones equipped with caller ID. When a call is placed to a phone with caller ID, a cell phone user's phone number is displayed. Depending on the mobile carrier, the caller's name may also be displayed. To protect your privacy, you can block your phone number from being displayed on a per-call basis or permanently.

Per-Call Basis

Step 1

Enter "*67" on the mobile device's keypad. This code must be used each time you place a call and want to block your cell phone number.

Step 2

Enter the number you are calling, then press the "Send" or green phone key to dial the number. The "*67" code and phone number should appear as a long string of numbers together.

Step 3

Wait for the other party to answer, then begin the conversation.

Step 4

Press the "End" or red phone key to disconnect the call.
