How to Boot a MacBook Pro From a CD

The MacBook Pro is Apple’s high-end laptop. As with all Apple computers, users can boot a MacBook Pro from a CD. You may need to boot your Mac from a CD in order to perform maintenance and repairs on the hard drive. A bootable CD is one that contains an operating system or a version of an operating system, so that the computer can start up. Apple ships all MacBook Pros with a bootable installation CD. In addition, many third-party computer repair programs come with a bootable CD.

Things You'll Need

  • MacBook Pro
  • Bootable CD

Step 1

Power off your MacBook Pro by going to the “Apple” menu, selecting “Shut Down” and pressing the “Shut Down” button.

Step 2

Restart the MacBook Pro by pressing the power button. Hold down the “C” key while you start up the computer and keep it pressed.

Step 3

Release the “C” key when the startup screen appears.
