How to Bulk Delete iPhone Email Messages

By Tyson Cliffton

Swiping your finger across individual email messages you want to remove and then tapping "Delete" for each one, one at a time, is a tedious task if you have a lot of email to remove from your iPhone. However, you can employ a faster method that lets you select the messages you want to get rid of and then delete them with the tap of a button. You can access this feature within any email Inbox you have set up in the Mail app.

Step 1

Tap the "Mail" app.

Step 2

Tap the name of the email inbox you want to bulk delete email from.

Step 3

Tap "Edit" in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Step 4

Tap the small white circle to the left of any email messages you want to delete from that email account. A red circle with a white checkmark appears inside of the white circle.

Step 5

Tap "Delete" in the lower-left corner of the screen after you have selected all the messages you want to delete. These messages will be removed from your iPhone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Messages you delete from your iPhone may still be available when you access that email account outside of the Mail application, depending on your email provider. For example, Gmail messages deleted on your iPhone will also be deleted from your Gmail inbox when viewed on any device. However, if you delete a Hotmail message on your iPhone, it will still appear in your inbox on other devices.
