How to Burn a PDF to CD

By Wesley DeBoy

You can burn a PDF to a CD the same way that you burn any other file to a CD--by burning the CD as a data disc. This process can be accomplished with utility software found on both Mac and Windows operating systems. Once the PDF has been burned to a data CD, you will be able to transport it to another computer and open it (as long as that computer has a PDF reader installed).

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with CD burner
  • CD-R

On a Mac

Step 1

Create a burn folder by opening the "Finder," clicking "File" and selecting "Create New Burn Folder."

Step 2

Click on the burn folder to name it. Otherwise, it will be labeled "Burn Folder" by default.

Step 3

Drag the PDF you would like to burn to CD into this new burn folder. Double-click the new burn folder to open it.

Step 4

Click "Burn" and insert a blank CD-R into the computer. After recognizing the blank CD, the PDF will be burned to the CD.

Step 5

Eject the CD when the burning process has finished. You have now successfully burned a PDF to CD.

On a PC

Step 1

Insert a blank CD-R into the computer. After recognizing the blank CD, the computer will prompt you, asking what you'd like to do with the blank disc.

Step 2

Select "Burn files to data disc" and name the data disc.

Step 3

Select "Mastered" from the available formatting options and click "Next."

Step 4

Drag the PDF you would like to burn to CD into the window that appears after clicking "Next."

Step 5

Click "Burn to disc."

Step 6

Eject the CD when the burning process has finished. You have now successfully burned a PDF to CD.
