How to Calculate Shipping Costs for the USPS

By Michael Batton Kaput

Thanks to fast and reliable transportation links, shipping a package to anywhere in the world is easier than ever. However, just because it is easier doesn't mean it comes cheap. People are often surprised at the high costs of shipping packages, especially internationally. Thankfully, when you ship packages through the United States Postal Service, you can now calculate in advance how much it will cost via the USPS's Postage Price Calculator online.

Step 1

Open your web browser and navigate to the United States Postal Service Postage Price Calculator (see References).

Step 2

Select the destination of your package in the "Select a Destination" box. Enter the zip code for the package's point of origin and for its destination. Specify the time and date you will be shipping the package.

Step 3

Choose the approximate size of the package from the options presented on the page. Sizes range from an envelope-sized package to a foot long or bigger. Click the "Continue" button at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4

Enter the quantity of packages you are sending if there is more than one, and click "Calculate" to determine the cost of shipping.
