How to Calculate the UPS Ground Shipping Rate

By K.C. Winslow

UPS offers ground shipping of packages to the 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. Delivery is generally in one to five days, and it is one of the most cost-effective forms of shipping that UPS offers. UPS Ground includes shipment tracking and guaranteed delivery. You can also add extra services, such as delivery confirmation, on-call pickup and UPS returns.

Step 1

Go to the UPS "Calculate Time and Cost" Web page.

Step 2

Select the type of quote you want from the list of options. “Quick Time and Cost (Package)” is appropriate for when you are shipping one package with a declared value of less than $100 and you will be dropping the prepaid package off at a UPS location. “Quick Time and Cost (Letter)” is appropriate for when you are shipping one letter with a declared value of less than $100 and you will be dropping the prepaid letter off at a UPS location. “Detailed Time and Cost” is appropriate for when you are shipping packages that do not meet the qualifications of the other two options.

Step 3

Enter the location you are shipping from and the destination in the text boxes. Select a destination type from the list of options.

Step 4

Enter the weight of the package, if required. If you do not know the exact weight, you can estimate and then get an official weight at a UPS facility.

Step 5

Click the “Next” button.

Step 6

Look down the page of shipping rates until you find the UPS Ground rate. You will find the cost, along with the estimated days in transit. Click “Ship” to pay for and print a shipping label.
