How to Call Someone From a Different Number With Android App
Android phones, like any mobile phone, have a phone number assigned by the mobile carrier, and this is the number you normally use when you make calls from your phone. If you want to protect your privacy and not reveal your mobile phone number, you can sign up for the free Google Voice service, choose a phone number and use the Google Voice app on your Android phone to make outgoing calls with your Google Voice number.
Create Google Voice Account
Open a browser window and go to voice.google.com. Log into your Google account with your Gmail Address and password, then click “Sign In.”
Click “I Want a New Number.” Type an area code for the number you would like in the Area Code of Zip Code text box, then click “Search Numbers.”
Click the “Next” and “Previous” buttons to see available numbers in the area code you selected. Click the radio button next to the number you want, then click “Continue.”
Configure Google Voice on Android
Download and install the Google Voice app from the Android Market if it’s not already installed on your phone.
Tap the Application Drawer on your Android home screen, then scroll to “Voice.” Touch the icon to open Google Voice.
Press the “Menu” button. Tap “More,” then touch “Settings.”
Tap “Making Calls.” Touch “Use Google Voice to Make All Calls” if you want to use your Google Voice number for all out-going calls. Tap “Ask Every Time I Make a Call” to receive a popup window when you enter a number in the Dialer and press the “Phone” icon. Choose “Call with Google Voice” or “Call Without Google Voice.”
Tips & Warnings
- If you have multiple Google Voice accounts that send calls to the same phone number, you are prompted to have Google Voice call the phone number. When you receive the call, enter the two-digit confirmation code to activate the Google Voice number.
- You can also configure Google Voice to answer incoming calls to your Google Voice number or forward them to your mobile phone number.
