How to Cancel an eBay Auction Without Selling the Item

By Techwalla Contributor

If you put an item up for sell on eBay and changed your mind about selling it or realize you made an error in your listing, you can stop the auction. To do so, however, requires that you have more than 12 hours left in the auction or restrictions will apply. If you have any bids, you will be given the choice of canceling the bids or selling the item to the highest bidder.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer
  • Internet Service
  • eBay account

Step 1

Locate the eBay item number, found in the upper right of your eBay auction. Each auction has a unique number, which is how eBay keeps track of the millions of auctions. Write this number down; you will need it to end your auction.

Step 2

Go the the End My Auction Early Form at: signin.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn&UsingSSL=1&pUserId=&co_partnerId=2&siteid=0&ru=http%3A%2F%2Foffer.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FEndingMyAuction%26guest%3D1&pageType=562

Step 3

Enter your username and password.

Step 4

Enter the item number you wrote down in Step 1. Verify that you entered the number correctly and click "Continue."

Step 5

Click to select "Cancel bids and end listing early."

Step 6

Click to choose the reason that you are ending the listing early. Click "End My Listing." The listing will no longer appear on eBay.
