How to Change iPad App Icons

By Matt McGew

The iPad does not offer a native setting that allows you to change icon images on the home screen of your device. By jailbreaking your iPad, however, you can change the icon images by loading themes onto your iPad device. The Cydia application store for jailbroken iPads offers hundreds of free and paid themes with new icons for your iPad. To download new themes, you will also need to install the WinterBoard application from the Cydia store. Jailbreaking your iPad will void the terms and conditions of your iPad warranty.

Step 1

Tap the "Cydia" icon on your iPad.

Step 2

Select the "Search" option and enter "WinterBoard" in the search bar. Select the "WinterBoard" application. Tap the "Install" button. Tap the "Confirm" button.

Step 3

Tap the "Reboot" button to restart your iPad device.

Step 4

Tap the "Cydia" icon.

Step 5

Tap the "Sections" button and select the "Themes" option.

Step 6

Select any of the displayed themes for a detailed description of the theme including screen shots of the theme's icons. Tap the "Install" button. Tap the "Confirm" button.

Step 7

Press the Home button on your iPad.
