How to Change My Mobile Number

By Michelle Varsallona

You do not have to keep your current mobile number. You can change the number with your cell phone provider. Some people decide to change their number due to harassment issues, but you may want to change the number for other purposes. Either way, a customer service representative with the company can help you. There is no way to change your number through your account online; you must call the provider.

Step 1

Call your cell phone carrier's customer service phone number. Call from a phone other than the one with the number that you want to change.

Step 2

Follow the audio prompts to be connected to a customer service representative. If you have trouble, try pressing "0" or saying "representative" or "operator" into the phone.

Step 3

Speak with the representative and explain that you want to change your phone number and your reason why.

Step 4

Write down the new phone number.

Step 5

Accept the charges. The representative may inform you that you will be charged for changing your phone number. The fee can be anywhere between $5.00 and $15.00.

Step 6

Check your phone. After ending the call with the representative, restart your phone and check your number to confirm that the change went through.
