How to Change My Verizon Cell Number to an iPhone

By John Mitchell

You can transfer your current Verizon cell-phone number to a new iPhone you bought. When you buy an iPhone from a Verizon Wireless retail store, the sales representative will activate the device for you while you're in the store. On the other hand, if you purchased a Verizon iPhone model from a third party, you can quickly activate the device online, using Verizon's self-service phone activation feature. The activation process automatically moves your phone number to the new phone.

Step 1

Go to the Verizon website and sign in to your account.

Step 2

Click the picture of your cell phone under the "My Device" section. If you have multiple phone lines, then you must first select the phone number from the drop-down menu.

Step 3

Click the "Activate or Switch Device" link under the "My Phone" section. Verify the phone number on the next page and click the "Next" button.

Step 4

Click the "Next" button again and then enter the iPhone's identification number in the "New Device ID" field. Valid ID numbers include the ESN, MEID or IMEI. You will find these identification numbers on the sticker on the back of the iPhone box.

Step 5

Click the "Submit" button. On the next page, confirm the details and click the "Submit" button again. It may take a few minutes for the phone number to successfully transfer from the old phone to your new iPhone.
