How to Change Parental Settings on Netflix

By Maya Walker

Netflix offers DVD rental by mail and streaming-over-the-Internet content to millions of subscribers. Available content ranges from movies to television shows. As a Netflix subscriber, you can set parental limits on what content is mailed or streamed to your home on Netflix devices. The limits prevent children from viewing material that may not be suitable for young viewers. Parental settings may be updated at any time. After changing your settings, it may take up to eight hours for the new settings to take effect.

Step 1

Access the Netflix website. Log in to your online account using your email address and password.

Step 2

Click the "Your Account & Help" link at the top right of the page to access the settings for your account.

Step 3

Click "Change Parental Control Setting" in the "Preferences" section. Depending on your account settings, you may need to provide your login information again.

Step 4

Click the radio button next to the setting you desire. The settings you select will apply to movies that are streamed and added to your DVD queue. You can choose to allow movies ranging from a G rating to an R rating. Click "Continue" to complete the process.
