How to Change Personal Settings in Yahoo!

By David Koenig

With a Yahoo! ID, you can log in to any of several websites, services and applications, including Yahoo! Pulse, Yahoo! Messenger and Yahoo! Answers. Once you've signed up for a free account, you can change your personal settings at any time to reflect your preferences for aspects such as privacy, updates and notifications. To do this, you log in to your "Pulse" page, the personal page that replaced Yahoo! Profiles.

Step 1

Go to, and log in with your Yahoo! ID.

Step 2

Click the arrow next to your user name in the main menu, and select "Profile" from the drop-down menu. This takes you to your "Pulse" page.

Step 3

Click "Settings" on the top right.

Step 4

Click "Manage Privacy Settings," and click the relevant boxes to indicate preferences such as whether others can find you through an online search and whether your profile is public. Click "Save" to confirm.

Step 5

Click "Manage Updates," and then click "Share My Updates" to enable or disable public sharing of updates. Select other sharing options from the drop-down menus, determining whether you will share each element of your account with "Everyone," "Connections" or "No one." Click "Save" when you've finished.

Step 6

Click "Manage Email Notifications," and click "Yes" or "No" next to each option to say whether you'd like to receive automatic notification of new activity. Click "Save" to confirm your new settings.
