How to Change the Apple ID and Password on an iPod

An "Apple ID" is an email address connected to your Apple profile and used to identify yourself when using Apple products or accessing Apple resources. It is needed to manage media on Apple devices, make purchases in the iTunes Store, download applications from the Apple App Store, receive personal support from Apple and much more. Apple IDs and passwords can be obtained and edited at the "My Apple ID" website.

Step 1

Go to the "My Apple ID" website (appleid.apple.com).

Step 2

Click on "Manage your account," located on the right side of the screen.

Step 3

Sign in using your pre-existing Apple ID and password.

Step 4

Click on "Edit" in the "Apple ID and Primary Email Address" section.

Step 5

Delete your Apple ID from the text box.

Step 6

Type a new Apple ID into the text box.

Step 7

Click on the "Save Changes" button, located on the bottom right of the screen.

Step 8

Click on "Password and Security," located in the navigation menu on the left side of the screen.

Step 9

Select "Change Password" at the top of the screen.

Step 10

Enter your old password in the "Old Password" text box.

Step 11

Enter your new password into the "New Password" text box.

Step 12

Re-enter your new password in the "Confirm Password" text box.

Step 13

Click on the "Save Changes" button, located on the bottom right of the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some Apple IDs, such as those originating from MobileMe or iChat accounts, can't be changed.
