How to Change the Battery in an Apple TV Remote

By K.C. Winslow

The Apple TV remote, also known as the Apple Remote, works with Apple TV, Mac desktop computers, Mac portable computers and compatible iPod docks from third parties. It transmits through an infrared signal from up to 30 feet away. When you need to change the battery on the remote, a warning icon appears on the display of the device you are using with the remote. You can obtain a new coin-style CR2032 lithium 3.0 V battery at most pharmacies and electronics stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Paperclip
  • CR2032 lithium 3.0 V battery

Step 1

Straighten one end of the paperclip, and use the end to press the release button for the battery compartment, which is located at the bottom of the remote.

Step 2

Grip the bottom of the remote between your fingers and pull the battery tray out.

Step 3

Take out the battery and replace it with the new battery. The positive or "+" side should face up.

Step 4

Push the battery tray until you hear it click into place.
