How to Change the Color of the Start Menu

The Windows operating system has plenty of settings and customization options to give your computer the look and feel you want. These options include the ability to change your desktop background and screen saver, and even the ability to tweak the toolbar and start menu colors to your liking.

Step 1

Right-click on the desktop and select "Personalize" from the right-click menu.

Step 2

Click the "Window Color" or "Window Color and Appearance" link depending on your Operating System.

Step 3

Select the color you want to use for your Start Menu and toolbars. You can enable transparency effects, intensify the color or even mix your own color with the options available.

Step 4

Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the Window.

Changing the Start Menu Color in XP

Step 1

Right-click on your desktop and select "Properties" from the right-click menu.

Step 2

Select the "Appearance" tab located at the top of the window.

Step 3

Select the desired color from the color scheme drop-down box.

Step 4

Select "Apply" and "OK" to save your changes.
