How to Change the Firefox Tab to Open the Homepage

By Chad Anderson

When Firefox 2.0 introduced tabbed browsing to Mozilla's Web browser, Firefox included an option to let you choose to open your home page when opening a new tab. With subsequent versions of Firefox, this option has disappeared. This was largely to increase browser speeds on slower systems. If you have a faster machine and want this option back, you can use the New Tab Homepage extension. New Tab Homepage is the only extension offering this fix.

Step 1

Launch a new Firefox window or tab and navigate to the New Tab Homepage add-on website.

Step 2

Click the green "Add to Firefox" button and wait for the add-on to download.

Step 3

Click the "Install Now" button after waiting for the three-second timer.

Step 4

Close all running Firefox windows, then restart your browser to activate the add-on.
