How to Change the ISP Password

Internet service providers (ISPs) require you to have a username and a password to manage your account, pay bills, check email and access other services. Users decide on a username and password when they set up their Internet service. Many ISP providers offer the option to reset and change your password online; others may require you to call.

Change ISP Password

Step 1

Log in to the ISP's website with the username and password chosen during set up. Locate and click on the "My Account" tab. Find the "Manage Your Profile" tab from the drop-down list.

Step 2

Click on "Change Password." Enter your current password and the new password. Re-enter the new password to verify.

Step 3

Proceed to the password confirmation page. Click on "Confirm" to change the password.

Reset ISP Password

Step 1

Visit the ISP's website. Locate the tab to sign in. Click on "Forgot Your Password."

Step 2

Enter your username in the reset password window that appears. Enter the security code that appears below the window.

Step 3

Answer the "secret question" for confirmation. Give the exact answer that you gave when signing up for the Internet account. Click "Submit."

Step 4

Enter a new password that follows all requirements. Re-enter the password for confirmation. Click "Enter" and wait for confirmation.

Step 5

Log off when the system confirms the new password.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make your password something that is easy for you to remember and difficult for others to guess.
  • Incorporate numbers and special characters, if permitted.
  • Check your "Caps Lock" key when you type the answer to the secret question. Most ISP passwords are case sensitive.
