How to Check the BIOS Version

By Andrew Meer

The Basic Input/Output System, or BIOS, is a program that you can launch at computer startup to configure any devices installed on your computer. Each BIOS manufacturer updates the BIOS on a regular basis, and the only way to recognize an updated BIOS is by checking its version. You do not need to go into the BIOS to determine the version of a BIOS because you can find it out from within Windows.

Step 1

Click on the "Start" button.

Step 2

Type "msinfo32" into the Search box.

Step 3

Press the "Enter" key to launch the System Information dialog box.

Step 4

Click on the option labeled "System Summary" on the left side of the System Information dialog box. The right side of the System Information dialog box will list the BIOS version of your computer next to "BIOS Version/Date."
