How to Clean a Large Screen TV

By Kallie Johnson

A clean television screen projects a clearer display. Removing dust and fingerprints from a large screen television is an easy task. However, the cleaning process varies based on the type of television you have. Older televisions were manufactured with a glass screen. These screens could be cleaned with any regular glass cleaning product. However, today there are several types of flat screen TV's available. These TV's can include LED, LCD and plasma models. Flat screen TV's must be cleaned with flat screen cleaning products to avoid damage.

Things You'll Need

  • Glass cleaner
  • Paper towels
  • Flat panel cleaning product
  • Lint-free microfiber cloth

Glass Panel Television

Step 1

Spray a window cleaning product on the large screen TV.

Step 2

Use a paper towel to wipe the cleaning product from the TV. Start at the top of the TV and work your way downward in vertical strokes.

Step 3

Repeat as needed until dust and fingerprints have been removed.

Flat Panel Television

Step 1

Spray the flat panel TV with a flat panel cleaning spray. Use enough spray to clean the entire surface of the TV. Depending on the size, this may be around three to five squirts. A flat panel cleaning spray is ammonia-free. Ammonia can etch flat panel screens or cause discoloration due to the anti-glare product used on most flat panel televisions.

Step 2

Use a lint-free microfiber cloth to wipe the cleaning product from the TV. Start at the top of the TV and work your way downward in vertical strokes. Alternatively, a flat panel cleaning wipe can be used.

Step 3

Repeat as needed until dust and fingerprints have been removed.
