How to Clean Attachments From the Outlook Calendar

By Bennett Gavrish

When you create or receive calendar events in Microsoft Outlook, sometimes files can be linked to the events as attachments. For example, a meeting at your company might have a text file of the agenda attached. If these calendar attachments are large, they can quickly take up space on your e-mail account. Occasionally, you should clean and purge events with attachments in the Outlook calendar.

Things You'll Need

  • PC running Windows XP or later
  • Microsoft Outlook 2003 or later

Step 1

Launch the Microsoft Outlook application and go to the "Calendar" tab in the lower-left corner of the window.

Step 2

Open the "View" menu, expand the "Arrange By" and "Current View" submenus and then select the "Events" option. This will change the view of your Outlook calendar so that you see a list of all the events in your account.

Step 3

Find the attachment symbol at the top of the event list, which is represented by a paper clip, and click on it. This will sort your calendar events from largest attachments to smallest attachments.

Step 4

Double-click one of the calendar events with a large attachment linked to it.

Step 5

Right-click on the attachment's icon and choose the "Clear" option. This will permanently remove the event's attachment from your Outlook calendar.

Step 6

Close the event window and repeat Steps 4 and 5 for all other attachments you want to clean.
